Wine & Weed Virtual Symposium
The COVID-19 Impact on Wine & Weed & What to Expect in 2022
An In-Person Event

This one-day conference will continue to explore how the California Wine industry is being impacted by the legalization of recreational cannabis consumption.

The virtual symposium will consist of 3 educational sessions featuring leading experts from both categories who will share their thoughts and expertise on the opportunities and potential threats to wine, both from a business and industry perspective.

"Our objective from day one when we launched the Wine & Weed Symposium in 2016 was to educate our wine industry audience on the potential impact, good and bad, that the legalization of cannabis might have on wine," said George Christie, President of Wine Industry Network. "Four years later, many questions remain unanswered, but one thing has not changed, in California, the cannabis industry is here to stay and it’s presence will continue to be felt by the wine industry one way or another. Wine industry professionals who want to minimize the guesswork of what exactly that impact will be, need to be here because we’re the only ones tackling this topic."

Why You Should Attend

The Cannabis and Wine Industries have more in common than what one might see at first glance. Both industries are firmly rooted in Northern California with a major emphasis on agriculture and quality - place of origin / AVA is an also an important differentiator for both categories.

Like the wine Industry, the cannabis Industry will be heavily regulated, and will experience tremendous overlaps with regard to legal, financial, compliance and distribution regulations that the wine industry currently adheres to.

To a significant degree, they also share a common consumer group and the cannabis industry is looking to potentially model the wine industry in areas such as destination marketing, hospitality events, direct to consumer programs and experiential marketing.

As a result, both industries may ultimately wind up competing for consumer attention and dollars in California’s most notable wine regions such as Sonoma, Napa, Mendocino, Lake, Humboldt, San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles, Lodi, Santa Barbara and Santa Cruz counties, as well as the Sierra Foothills and beyond.

Everyone in the wine industry, whether an owner, winemaker, salesperson, hospitality manager, grower, or admin should attend this conference - regardless of whether or not you have specific plans to work in or with the cannabis industry. Cannabis professionals who believe that there are lessons to be learned, and potential collaborative opportunities to be had, from and with wine, should also plan to be attend this educational one-day symposium.

This is an opportunity to learn from experts in both industries about the opportunities, risks and rewards that the evolving cannabis landscape presents.
